Singapore is a small wealthy city-state at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula in southeast Asia with a dense population of 5.61 million people.

As a high-income economy boasting affluent individuals, strong consumer demand, healthy competition between the two existing pay-TV operators and numerous pan-regional sports broadcasters and a recognized high average revenue per user (ARPU) market, Singapore is considered a strategically important market for rights-holders, especially of premium soccer content.

There were 13.1 million broadband subscribers by the end of 2017. Of these subscribers, 11.6 million were wireless, representing a wireless broadband penetration of 206 per cent.


BeIN Sports, the Qatari-owned international sports broadcaster, launched in Singapore in April 2016 and is a key component in beIN Sports Asia-Pacific presence.
The channel features ‘live’ coverage of numerous soccer competitions from around the world including La Liga, Ligue 1, Coupe de la Ligue, Trophée des Champions, Super Lig and A-League, as well as sailings round-the-world Volvo Ocean Race. 


State-owned Mediacorp is the only free-to-air (FTA) broadcaster in Singapore.
Serving as the national broadcaster, Mediacorp operates seven free-to-air channels targeting the various demographics of the city-state. These include Channel 5, an English-language mass entertainment and lifestyle channel, and okto, a children’s channel by day but a sports channel by night (oktoSports).


Discovery-owned Eurosport secured exclusive media rights for the Uefa Champions League and Europa League in Singapore from 2015-16 to 2017-18, paying S$45 million (US$36 million) and amid a push to secure more premium rights in Asia. Coverage of all Champions League and Europa League matches are available on Eurosport Football, Eurosport's live match streaming service


With 8.5 million mobile phone subscribers, Singapore had a mobile penetration of 151 per cent by the end of 2017. 4G was the dominant connection type, accounting for 72 per cent of total subscribers and having finally surpassed 3G usage in 2015.
