Reckitt in as hygiene sponsor of 2022 Commonwealth Games

Reckitt, a UK consumer goods manufacturer and retailer, has today (May 16) been announced as an official partner of the upcoming Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Two of the company’s brands, Dettol and Durex, have been appointed as the tournament's official hygiene partner and the official intimate wellness provider, respectively.

The tournament’s organizers have said that “Dettol science-led protocols and products will enhance hygiene during the games in Birmingham, whilst Durex condoms will be available for athletes.”

Both brands will offer out their full product ranges to both fans and athletes across the course of the tournament, which will take place across 15 venues in Birmingham, England, between July 28 and August 8.

Katie Sadleir, chief executive at the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) said: “We are proud to welcome Reckitt to the team. As the official hygiene partner, Dettol’s industry-leading knowledge and expertise will help us deliver a successful and safe competition for athletes, officials and fans.”

Ian Reid, Birmingham 2022’s chief executive, added: “It’s more important than ever before to ensure that Birmingham 2022 has all the necessary measures in place to help protect all participants and supporters.

“This new partnership with Reckitt will give us added reassurance as we look ahead to the Games in a few months’ time.”

Last week, the games’ organizers announced that Chase, the new digital bank of US financial services firm JPMorgan Chase, had been added to the portfolio of top-tier sponsors for the event.

Chase, which launched last year, becomes the official banking partner of the games in a deal that also includes sponsorship of Team England, Team Scotland, and Team Wales.

In addition, the bank becomes the presenting sponsor of the cycling and women’s cricket T20 events at the games, with women’s cricket debuting at the Commonwealth Games for the first time.

Birmingham 2022 now has four top-tier sponsors, with Chase joining luxury watch brand Longines, energy company E.ON, and the University of Birmingham.

Second-tier sponsors include water company Severn Trent, Japanese camera manufacturer Canon, and professional services company PwC.
