Multi-sport games - 23 May 2022
Author: Tariq Saleh

Lucozade Sport, the sports drink brand, has today (May 23) been announced as the latest sponsor for the upcoming Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The brand will serve as the official sports drink of the games and provide athletes with isotonic drinks throughout the multi-sport tournament.

Lucozade expects to provide over 102,000 liters of its sports drink to all athletes throughout the games which will take place across 15 venues in Birmingham, England, between July 28 and August 8.

The Commonwealth Games will feature around 4,500 athletes from 72 nations and territories competing in 19 sports.

In addition, Lucozade will work with the organizers on sustainability initiatives.

The brand has been designated as a third-tier supplier of the games.

In recent weeks, the tournament’s organizers have also announced Reckitt, a UK consumer goods manufacturer and retailer, and Chase, the new digital bank of US financial services firm JPMorgan Chase, as official partners for the games.

Both companies joined as top-tier sponsors alongside luxury watch brand Longines, energy company E.ON, and the University of Birmingham.

Second-tier sponsors include water company Severn Trent, Japanese camera manufacturer Canon, and professional services company PwC.

Matthew Kidson, Birmingham 2022 director of sport, said: “In less than three months’ time, thousands of the world’s top competitors will be arriving in Birmingham to push themselves physically and win one of the highest prizes in world sport.

“Partnering with the UK’s number one sports drink means athletes will be provided with product that supports them in their quest to maximize their performance in front of thousands of spectators and millions watching around the world.”

The organizers claim the event will attract more than 1 million spectators to the West Midlands city and have a global TV audience of 1.5 billion.
