World Archery Championships in Denmark was like never before

Archery - 03 Aug 2015

623 archers from 96 nations, 1.097 matches, and 10 sets of medals. The 2015 World Archery Championships in Copenhagen was the biggest ever and showed Christiansborg Palace and Copenhagen as an iconic archery setting.

More than 55.688 arrows have left the bows in the heart of Copenhagen during the World Championships that finished today.

Already on the first day of competition, all the tickets for the finals were sold out. And the many spectators got what they came for the finals in the heart of the Danish Capital.

Christiansborg Palace set the iconic frames for the finals where the World’s best archers fought for medals in bright sunshine.

Rolf Lind, President of Archery Denmark:

“I am pleased and proud of the World Championship we have been able to have in the heart of our capital together with our partners Sport Event Denmark and the city of Copenhagen. The finals at Christiansborg Palace have placed an iconic legacy to the pulse of the city. I am sure that this World Championships will be one that the entire archery community in Denmark will remember and look back at with great pride in many years ahead,” he says.

CEO of the 2015 World Championships partner, Sport Event Denmark, Lars Lundov adds:

“Again, Christiansborg Palace proves itself a perfect setting for a huge international sporting event. Just like the World Championship in Half Marathon, this World Archery Championships have been praised both national and international for choosing the Palace Square as arena for the finals. The impressive gold medal by Stephan Hansen, the bronze medals to the Danish compound men team, the great pictures of the full grandstands, the archers on the blue matt and the top of the stock exchange are just some of the pictures that Denmark and the 2015 World Archery Championships will be remembered for,” he says.

Lars Vallentin, Director sport events in Wonderful Copenhagen:

“The World Archery Championships this week have been amazing for the sport and Copenhagen. Archery are known of selecting beautiful and untraditional setting for their biggest championships. In Copenhagen, the sport hit the hearts of the Danes with the World Cup finals in 2009, and the World Championships this week topped up an epic and historic arena in the heart of Copenhagen,” he says.

Tom Dielen, Secretary General in World Archery praised the World Championships in Copenhagen already Saturday:

“Today was an historic day for archery in a beautiful and unique location in the heart of Copenhagen. Not only did Denmark get its world champion on home soil in Stephan Hansen but the sold-out seats were full of a loud Danish crowd to see him do it – and the event was live on national TV2 and across the world.”

“It was a day of historic firsts. We had a first world individual medal for India, a first world crown for Iran and a first compound world championship gold medal for Korea - and a first archery broadcast featuring a helicopter camera!”

During the week, 210 volunteers from six countries have helped making everything run smoothly and making the 2015 World Archery Championships in Copenhagen like never before.
