World Championships Finals 2015 in front of the Danish Parliament

Archery - 09 Apr 2014

Barely has the last runner from the successful World Championship in half marathon crossed the finish line before it can be announced, that yet another big sport event is taking place in the heart of Copenhagen, in front of the Danish Parliament, Christianborg Palace. The world’s best archers, with the defending world champion and Danish sports name of the year 2013, Maja Jager, shoot to win the World Championships medals in 2015 with Christiansborg Palace as the beautiful backdrop.

Chairman for Archery Denmark, Rolf Lind says; "When we in 2009 held the World Cup final in the Copenhagen harbour, Nyhavn, we achieved big international acknowledgement, and set new standards for how an international archery event can be held. By choosing Christiansborg Palace for the World Championships finals in the summer 2015, we hope to create an equally iconic event setup. Our goal for the World Championships is to show the best of our sport to the whole world. We would like to combine this with showing the best of Denmark and Copenhagen to the world, by placing the finals in the heart of Copenhagen."

Denmark’s defending world champion Maja Jager looks forward to shooting at home: "I look forward to defending my world champion-title on Danish grounds. Copenhagen will be a fantastic host city, and I’m happy my international colleagues will get to see it. I’m sure Christiansborg Palace will make a great setting for the finals."

"Christiansborg Palace has been the setting for several large sport events in the last couple of years. The upcoming events like KMD Ironman Copenhagen and Christiansborg Swim Meet are at true celebration for the Copenhageners, and have created a lot of attention for the sport on Christiansborg. Christiansborg Palace was also the epicentre for a gigantic runner’s party at the newly staged IAAF World Half. There will be a natural focus on an event, when it is placed centrally in the heart of our capital i beautiful surroundings" says Lars Lundov, CEO,Sport Event Denmark.

The World Championships in Copenhagen will, apart for the chance to win medals, be the first opportunity to qualify for the Olympics in Rio.
