World Cup success boosts Denmark’s confidence towards the Canoe World Championships

Canoeing - 01 Jun 2015

The ICF Sprint World Cup Copenhagen 2015 on Bagsvaerd Lake was a success for the Danish Canoe Federation and for the partners from Sport Event Denmark, Gladsaxe Municipality, Lyngby-Taarbæk municipality and Wonderful Copenhagen.

That is what the chairman of Danish Canoe Federation, Ole Tikjøb, thinks.

- It has been a fantastic event and an excellent set-up all the way round. I have been given much credit from athletes as well as from invited guests. The president of the ICF, Jose Peruena thanked for a splendid and well-run event, he says.

Seen from a Danish point of view, World Cup was a success both on water and on land where several hundred volunteers saw to that everything worked for athletes as well as for the attendants.

Sports wise, we can only be satisfied with gold, silver and bronze medals for our athletes who seem to be satisfied and happy. Saying this, we should not forget to thank the big group of volunteers who have put immense efforts into this big task and this way helping to make everything run smoothly, says Ole Tikjøb and continues:

- This World Cup just gives us even more courage to arrange a major event again. So now we continue working with our World Champion strategy in six years, because with this World Cup we have proved that we can handle an event of this size.

Lars Lundov, CEO of Sport Event Denmark, shares this view.

- With this Med ICF Sprint Canoe World Cup we have added yet another canoe event to our list of events on Bagsvaerd Lake. There were well-deserved medals and great performances by the Danish athletes. It gives good promises for their preparations towards the Olympic Games in Rio. In addition, this time the ICF has been very satisfied with our handling of the event, which is positive for our long-term strategy to arrange World championships when the refurbishment of the rowing stadium has been completed, he says.
