World Sports Law Report – Sport & Data Protection

Business - 03 Apr 2008
WORLD SPORTS LAW REPORT

Sport & Data Protection
8 April 2008, 8:30 - 5:00

Sporting organisations hold increasing amounts of sensitive personal data, ranging from fan and spectator data to detailed information about athletes such as whereabouts information and doping test results. Organisations regularly share this data with event organisers, governing bodies, sponsors or law enforcement authorities.  The challenge for all sports organisations is to strike a balance between its needs and obligations and the individual's right to privacy. World Sports Law Report is organising a full-day briefing examining these and other issues around data protection in sport, including the protection of children in sport, and fan and spectator privacy at sporting events.

Speakers include: Kristof Van Quathem, Data Protection Counsel for WADA Michele Verroken, Sporting Integrity Nicole Sapstead, UK Sport Dr Stephan Netzle, Wenger Plattner, Switzerland Stewart Room, Partner, Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP.

Topics to be discussed include: - WADA's International Standard for the Protection of Privacy - Doping samples and doping information - Athlete whereabouts information - The protection of children in sport - Domestic and foreign athlete data - Stadium access issues & the use of CCTV - Hooligan databases - Marketing using fan databases
