NFL to discuss international expansion at Soccerex
Soccerex will be bringing a taste of gridiron to this year’s Global Convention, with the confirmation that the National Football League (NFL)’s Executive Vice President for International, Mark Waller, will attend the event to discuss the NFL’s global development plans with the football industry.
Mark will be speaking on the first day of the Global Convention – 26-28 September, Manchester – alongside a mix of senior league and governing body figures, from football and other sports, in a panel looking at how to approach international expansion and analysing the best way to engage overseas markets.
The NFL has successfully hosted regular-season games at Wembley Stadium since 2007 – with a deal in place to continue doing so until 2020 - ensuring that UK fans get a chance to enjoy the NFL experience on home soil. In 2016, in addition to two games at Wembley, there will also be a game at Twickenham Stadium, and the NFL will return to Mexico for the first time in a decade with a game played at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.
The NFL’s connection to the soccer industry was further strengthened last year with announcement of a 10-year agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for a minimum of two NFL games per year to be played at the Premier League team's new state-of-the-art stadium, due to open in the summer of 2018.
Commenting on Mark Waller’s involvement, Soccerex CEO, Duncan Revie said: “The NFL is one of the biggest and most progressive leagues in world sport and it is an honour to have Mark as part of this year’s Global Convention. It’s always great to get a different sporting perspective and hearing Mark’s thoughts alongside some of the biggest football leagues in the world will be a fascinating experience for our delegates”
Mark Waller commented: “The NFL is very excited to be a part of this event. As well as sharing some of our own experiences of building the sport in the UK in recent years, I am looking forward to hearing from other leagues about their challenges and strategies. Soccerex in Manchester is a great opportunity for us all to learn more about the global sports landscape.”
Mark will be part of a thought-provoking conference programme at the Soccerex Global Convention 2016, designed to deliver unique business insight across a variety of key sectors and subject matters ranging from sponsorship and fan engagement to the technological innovations and stadium development.
