USA Basketball to elect new chairman to succeed Colangelo

USA Basketball is to elect a new president this month after Jerry Colangelo decided not to seek a third term in the post.
The election, for a four-year period starting in 2017, will take place at an annual meeting of the national governing body's board of directors on 14 November.
Colangelo has been at the helm since 2009, and was re-elected in 2012.
However, he announced last week that he would be stepping down to focus on his role as managing director of the men’s national team, a position he has filled since 2005.
Retired General Martin Dempsey, the former chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, which advise the government on military matters, is expected to replace Colangelo as the chairman of USA Basketball.
Dempsey has been a consultant to NBA commissioner Adam Silver since October 2015, and has served as the chairman of the Junior NBA Leadership Council.
USA are the current Olympic and world champions in men’s and women’s basketball, and also hold various titles at age-group level.
