World Archery renews with Sportcal to conduct GSI Event Study on World Archery Championships 2017

Sportcal and World Archery will again collaborate to conduct a GSI Event Study on the 2017 World Archery Championships, taking place in Mexico City, Mexico on 15-22 October.

This will be the second international archery championships in succession analysed using the GSI methodology, after the 2015 World Archery Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark.

In 2015, a record 590 athletes from 92 nations attended the championships, in addition to 353 team officials and 190 delegates to the World Archery Congress, which preceded the event. In total, overseas visitors related to the championships contributed 13,300 bed nights and generated $3.3 million in direct economic impact.

For the World Archery Championships in 2017, Sportcal will analyse the six core event impact pillars – economic, media, social media, sponsorship, sporting and social – and look in detail at the tourism impact of the event.

World Archery Secretary General, Tom Dielen, said: "The first GSI study we participated in, back in 2015, gave us a comprehensive view of the positive impact of one of our major events, especially on the host city. It yielded tangible statistics to present to potential bid cities, and identified areas of opportunity in our event management. It will be exciting to see how we've developed over the two years inbetween the championships."

Sportcal will work in collaboration with key stakeholders involved in staging the event, including World Archery; the event organiser and national federation; host city; sponsors; broadcasters and any third party organisations to gather, assimilate, analyse and compare the data and narrative around the event.

GSI Event Studies Programme 2017-2020:
