Delegation in Düsseldorf to flag Danish bid for the Tour

Cycling - 27 Jun 2017

A Danish delegation will be visiting Düsseldorf this weekend during the start of this year’s Tour de France. The purpose of the visit from the delegation is to convince the people behind the Tour de France that Denmark is the perfect location for a Grand Départ in 2020 or 2021.

Saturday this year’s Tour de France begins. The Grand Départ this year takes place in Düsseldorf in Germany, but hopefully in a few years’ time the world’s biggest cycling race will start of in Denmark.

In June 2016 the Danish bid for a Danish Tour de France start was officially presented to the A.S.O – the organisation behind the Tour de France. Since then the Danish government and the organisations behind the Danish bid have been working hard to strengthen the relations with the A.S.O and keep their attention on the Danish bid.

This weekend a Danish delegation is travelling to the Grand Départ in Düsseldorf in order to show the Danish support for a Danish Tour de France start, which will include three stages:

The first stage in Copenhagen, a second stage going from Roskilde to Odense and a third stage from Vejle to Sønderborg.

The group behind the bid consist of: the Danish Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, the Capital Region of Denmark, the regions of Zealand and Southern Denmark, the municipalities of Copenhagen, Roskilde, Odense, Vejle and Sønderborg, Sport Event Denmark and Wonderful Copenhagen.

The delegation this weekend includes:

•      Danish Minister for Employment Troels Lund Poulsen
•      President of the Regional Council of the Capital Region of Denmark Sophie Hæstorp Andersen
•      Mayor of Vejle Jens Ejner Christensen
•      Mayor of Sønderborg Erik Lauritzen
•      CEO, Sport Event Denmark Lars Lundov

•      Danish Ambassador in Germany Friis Arne Petersen

The delegation also includes representatives from the Danish Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, Copenhagen Municipality, Odense Municipality and Wonderful Copenhagen.
