Bondi Stadium Construction Risks Protesters
The Olympic Coordination Authority has announced that the police will be out to guard the construction workers at the Olympic Volleyball venue area to ward off protesters against building on Australia's most famous stretch of shoreline, Bondi Beach. The Waverly Council has released a study claiming that the 60mt stadium seating 10,000 could be a safety hazard while it is being constructed, could cause beach erosion and pollute the sand. Protesters have threatened to lie down in front of the bulldozers and construction vehicles and to even chain themselves to the machinery to block the works. The President of the International Volleyball Federation has asked for clarifications from Minister Michael Knight as to what was to be the outcome. Minister Knight has assured him that a plan with the government and the police would be formulated to complete construction.
