FIBA World Basketball Summit launched in China, sets out to shape the sport's future

Basketball - 23 Apr 2018

XI'AN/BEIJING, China - The first-ever FIBA World Basketball Summit, a gathering of stakeholders from across the globe setting out to build the sport's future, will take place in Xi'an, China, on October 3-4.

The two-day event will bring together a wide range of high-ranking personalities in world basketball - from top level officials and management personnel in federations, clubs and leagues, to business leaders and heads of corporations across areas such as media and technology, brands and corporate social responsibility.

This is the first individual sport summit of its kind and marks a significant milestone in the history of basketball's development, reflecting both the global popularity and maturity of the game.

The FIBA World Basketball Summit is a "can't miss" annual get-together for all who play key roles in basketball's global ecosystem. It is a unique opportunity for these personalities to share their experience and knowledge, while also taking advantage of the sport's biggest platform to promote their competitions, activities and interests.

Xi'an - the capital of Shaanxi Province and ancient capital of the 13 dynasties of China - has agreed to host the first three editions (2018, 2019 and 2020) of the FIBA World Basketball Summit.

The official presentation of the FIBA World Basketball Summit took place on Monday morning at a press conference held in the Hall of Embodied Treasure, within Beijing's Forbidden City.

The ceremony included the unveiling of the Summit's logo, announcement of the Organizing Committee around the Shaanxi Provincial Sports Bureau and Shaanxi Basketball Association, as well as the launch of the official WeChat and Sina Weibo accounts.

Among the distinguished guest on hand for the launch of the FIBA World Basketball Summit were: Mr Frank Leenders, FIBA Media and Marketing Services (FMMS) Director General; Mr Xu Peng, Deputy Director of Shaanxi Provincial Sports Bureau; and Mr Wang Libin, Vice President of the Chinese Basketball Association and President of Shaanxi Basketball Association.

Further information about the event's program will be released soon and can be found on worldsummit.basketball.
