Icarus Sports covers 2018 CFLD Beijing Marathon
On Sunday 16 September, the roads of Beijing will witness the spectacular sight of 30,000 athletes racing in the 2018 CFLD Beijing Marathon.
First held in 1981 and massively popular the world over, the race is China’s premier marathon, attracting over 111,793 entry applications this year. Recognized as a Gold Label Road Race by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and recorded by the Association of International Marathons and Road Races (AIMS), the 2018 CFLD Beijing Marathon weaves around the heart of Beijing City.
From the starting point at Tian’anmen Square, the largest urban central square in the world, runners will pass the economic, cultural and technological landmarks of Beijing, finishing at Ceremony Square, home of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games’ ‘Bird's Nest’ and ‘Water Cube’.
Amongst the 30,000 athletes will be the world’s elite, including big stars such as Dejene Debela Gonfa, Abayneh Ayele Woldegiorgis, Seboka Dibaba Tola from Ethiopia and Valary Jemeli Aiyabei from Kenya.
