Bundesliga opens China office by announcing Jürgen Klinsmann Tour

Soccer - 27 Mar 2019

  • Bundesliga International’s new Beijing office now open
  • Plans for Klinsmann’s Bundesliga Legends Tour to Chinese capital confirmed for April
  • Team visits to be announced shortly

The Bundesliga has officially opened its new representative office in Beijing with news that their first major activity will be a Bundesliga Legends Tour with 1990 World Cup winner Jürgen Klinsmann.

The two-time German footballer of the year and 1996 European champion will visit the Chinese capital between 11-15 April for the joint initiative between the Bundesliga and official broadcaster PP Sports. Designed to bring the Bundesliga’s ‘Football As It’s Meant To Be’ mantra closer to Chinese fans, Klinsmann will share his passion for German football with fans and media during his time in the country.

This precedes news of an impending announcement detailing the visit of some German teams to China within the next few months as the league continues to expand across this region.

Bundesliga International’s new China office is located within the DRC Liangmaqiao Diplomatic Office Building as part of the German Center Beijing in the city’s Chaoyang District.

Its opening is yet another indication of the development of the league not only in Asia but across the world. With other subsidiaries operating in Singapore (Asia) and New York (Americas), plus a strategic partnership with IMG Reliance in India, the Bundesliga continues to implement its global strategy through an on-ground presence in a number of key markets.

The Beijing office is led by new Head of China, Patrick Stueber, former Senior Audio Visual Rights Manager at Bundesliga International. He will be supported by Sunny Sun, Head of Marketing & Business Development China, and Bo Zong, Senior Project Manager China, DFL Digital Sports, who manages the Bundesliga’s Chinese digital projects.

Speaking about this, Bundesliga International CEO Robert Klein said: “It’s great to be on the ground in China. The office is open and our local team is up and running. We have a deep relationship with Chinese sports fans and look forward to engaging with them day in day out, allowing them to experience ‘Football As It’s Meant To Be’.”

Patrick Stueber added: “Our Beijing team is excited to finally get started on our long-term activity plan which already features some highlights over the coming months. With news that one of the Bundesliga’s global icons, followed by some of our clubs, will be travelling here, this goes to show the investment we are making in China.”

In China you can follow the Bundesliga on Bundesliga.cn and via the official SINA Weibo, WeChat and Jinri Toutiao channels.
