FISU and Qiaodan Sports extend partnership

University sports - 03 Jul 2019

FISU and Qiaodan Sports formally announced an extension of their longterm partnership agreement through to 2023.

NAPLES, Italy – One of the longest and most successful partnerships in university sports continues. FISU and Qiaodan Sports formally announced an extension of their longterm partnership agreement granting Qiaodan Sports the right to provide uniforms for the FISU Family ® at all sports events and educational initiatives until 2023.

This four-year partnership extends a previous agreement between FISU and the sport casual apparel company; one that saw Qiaodan named as an Official Partner of both FISU and the University World Cup – 3x3. This fall will be the fifth edition of the 3x3 Basketball tournament that brings the 16 best men’s and women’s university teams to the world final. This year’s annual tournament takes place in Xiamen, China from 30 October – 3 November.

The signing was made on site of the 30th Summer Universiade, with the twelve days of competition getting underway today. Nearly 6,000 student-athletes from 118 countries representing 1,868 universities are set to compete here in the southern Italian coastal city of Naples.

FISU President Oleg Matytsin was particularly enthused with partnership extension, saying, “We are thrilled to announce this exciting partnership between FISU and Qiaodan Sports.  Qiaodan Sports has shown its dedication to university and Olympic sport over many years and has developed sport domestically and internationally through billions of dollars of investment.  This long-term commitment to sport really impressed FISU.”

“FISU is building a strong network of partners that share its determination and passion for raising the profile of university sport and this deal is part of that strategy,” Matytsin added. “I am confident that, with the help of Qiaodan Sports, FISU will be better equipped to deliver its mission to act for the health and wellbeing of students, and thereby help them to become tomorrow’s leaders.”

Qiaodan Sports has a strategic record of partnering with university sports organisations, including sponsoring both the Chinese and Russian university student sports delegations at a number of Universiades.    During the signing, Qiaodan Sports CEO Ni Zhennian elaborated on the strategic synergies of associating the up-and-coming apparel and equipment manufacturer to university sports teams and delegations around the world.

“Qiaodan Sports has a long-standing commitment to supporting sport at every level and this deal with FISU presents us with another opportunity to help boost student sport,” Zhennian said. “Our values of ‘good faith, cooperation and innovation’ are completely aligned with FISU’s values.

“After our previous involvement with FISU and in university sport, it felt natural for us to sign this new agreement.”

About FISU

Founded in 1949, FISU stands for Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (International University Sports Federation). FISU was formed within university institutions in order to promote sports values and sports practice in harmony with the university spirit. Promoting sports values means encouraging friendship, fraternity, fair-play, perseverance, integrity and cooperation amongst students, who one day may have responsibilities and key positions in politics, economy, culture and industry.

With FISU’s motto being ‘Today’s Stars, Tomorrow’s Leaders’, all FISU events include educational and cultural aspects, bringing together sport and academia from all over the world to celebrate with a spirit of friendship and sportsmanship. FISU cooperates in developing its events and programmes with all major international sports and educational organisations. As major outcomes of those collaborations, in 2015, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) proclaimed the International Day of University Sport to be celebrated annually on 20 September – an event that has seen huge growth in its first few years.

FISU is composed of 174 Member Associations (National University Sports Federations). The FISU General Assembly elects the members of the FISU Executive Committee, its board of directors. A total of 14 permanent committees advise the Executive Committee in their specialised areas. For the daily administration of FISU, the FISU Executive Committee relies on the Secretary General, who is assisted by the FISU staff. FISU’s headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland.
