FISU closely monitoring developments related to coronavirus
The International University Sports Federation (FISU) is closely monitoring developments related to the coronavirus outbreak and its global spread. Keeping the safety of participants and organisers in mind, the Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC) has cancelled all international participation until May 2020.
Thus, their athletes will not participate in this season’s first three World University Championships – namely Cross Country in Marrakech (MAR) on 7 March, Speed Skating in Amsterdam from 10-13 March and Ski Orienteering in Rovaniemi (FIN) from 23-27 March. FISU extends its best wishes to all Chinese university athletes for their continued training and looks forward to their renewed participation at the earliest appropriate opportunity.
FISU will continue to monitor the situation closely ahead of the two World University Championships that are slated to be held in the People’s Republic of China in July this year – namely, the World University Wushu Championship in Liaoyang from 11-14 July 2020 and the World University Squash Championship in Shanghai from 20-26 July. With more than four months to go, FISU is hopeful that these events will go ahead as planned.
FISU would like to reiterate its full confidence in the organisers of these events and in China’s capacity to effectively tackle the outbreak.
