BSI Clinches New Television Deal in Denmark

Motorcycling - 15 Dec 2004

BSI has signed a landmark four year agreement with Denmark’s national broadcaster Denmarks Radio (DR) and foremost cable and satellite channel dk4, to broadcast the world championship FIM Speedway Grand Prix Series (SGP) and FIM Speedway World Cup (SWC).

The contract will see both championships transmitted live on dk4 with DR1 broadcasting a one-and-a-half hour highlights programme on the Saturday evening after each event. As part of the agreement DR will also carry news of the Grands Prix on their textual news service, website and broadcast on their P3 radio station. dk4 and their wholly owned production company Primevision will use their considerable production expertise to produce a number of broadcasts for the SGP Series and SWC over the next four years.

Commenting on the deal, John Postlethwaite, Chief Executive, BSI, rights holders of both the SGP Series and SWC, said: 'dk4 took a chance with our broadcast a number of years ago when the performance of Danish riders was at a low ebb.. The emergence of 2003 Danish World Champion Nicki Pedersen and a number of exciting young Danish riders has led to outstanding growth in TV audiences on both DR and dk4 and we are pleased to repay their faith in the sport with this significantly extended agreement.'

Olav Skaaning Andersen, Head of Sports, DR, said: 'We are proud to be able to show the Speedway Grand Prix Series on national television. The growth of the world championship over the past three years has been exceptional, coinciding with the move to Denmark’s national stadium PARKEN and the development of world class Danish riders.

'This new contract reinforces our commitment to both Championships and we’re looking forward to working with BSI to increase the awareness and quality of the event as a television spectacle.'

dk4 Chief Executive, Stig Holbøll Hasner commented: 'We have thoroughly enjoyed working with BSI in establishing the Grand Prix Series as one of the ‘must see’ live television events in Denmark. There is no doubt the SGP Series and Speedway World Cup as television events are thriving and we look forward to strengthening this relationship over the next four years.'
