BSI Confirm 2005 Swedish Grand Prix Venues
BSI, rights holders of the world championship FIM Speedway Grand Prix Series, has today confirmed the two Swedish venues that will host Grands Prix in 2005.
Sweden’s Eskilstuna and Målilla speedway clubs will stage the Swedish and Scandinavian Grands Prix respectively, with Eskilstuna also hosting the Swedish round of the FIM Speedway World Cup.
John Postlethwaite, Chief Executive, BSI, comments: 'We’re delighted to have agreed contracts with Eskilstuna and Målilla. It was a very hard decision as all of the six clubs we visited in Sweden had their merits. But both Eskilstuna and Målilla impressed us with the infrastructure they have in place and the plans they have to invest further into their venues ensuring they can accommodate a greater number of fans in comfortable surroundings.'
Commenting on the deal, Göran Karlsson, Chairman, Eskilstuna Speedway Club, said: 'It’s very exciting for the club and the city of Eskilstuna to host such prestigious sporting events. We have full support from the city, who are also helping us with arrangements, and the whole town is very proud and looking forward to welcoming the Grand Prix next year.'
Carl-Anton Johansson, Marketing Director, Luxo Stars – the speedway team that ride at the Målilla track – commented: 'We are thrilled to be hosting a Grand Prix. Målilla is situated in the middle of Sweden’s speedway hotbed and we have one of the largest attendances in the Swedish league, so we feel that we will be able to attract a great audience for the event. We are also planning a full programme of entertainment around the Grand prix to ensure that all the fans have a memorable time at Målilla.'
The General Secretary of SVEMO, Per Westling, also gives his support to both clubs hosting the world championship events, he said: 'BSI has made a good choice and I believe it will be good for the sport and the Grand Prix Series in Sweden. We are looking forward to it.'
The final calendar for the 2005 FIM Speedway Grand Prix Series will be confirmed by the end of November.
