ActiveTV to Sell Athletics Australia Rights
Athletics Australia has appointed ActiveTV as its representative agent in selling international television rights of Athletics Australia events including the forthcoming Telstra Athletics Trials and next year's Grand Prix Series.
Athletics Australia Chief Executive Simon Allatson said the interest in Australian athletics as a television event has increased since Fox Sports started its live broadcasts of domestic meets.
He said the growing number of international athletes that compete in Australia annually coupled with the universality of athletics as a sport has opened an opportunity for Australian athletic events to be telecast into other nations.
The three year international rights agreement marks the first time ActiveTV has represented a sport it does not represent or package in Australia.
'The international profile of Australian athletics is on the rise due to a number of factors including the Sydney Games and the solid performances of Australian athletes, and we anticipate growing interest from overseas broadcasters,' ActiveTV Managing Director Michael McKay said.
ActiveTV will represent all of Athletics Australia's events in Australia to the international market on an exclusive basis.
Currently Fox Sports holds the exclusive domestic television rights to Athletics Australia events.
ActiveTV also represents the National Basketball League, Australian Rowing, Diving, Equestrian, Indoor Cricket and V8 Supercars (selected markets). It produces Trackside and NBL Slam for Network Ten, GPTV for the Australian Formula One Grand Prix and provides high-level production expertise to the Melbourne Cup Carnival, Gold Coast Indy Carnival and Bathurst 1000.
In the lead-up to the Olympics ActiveTV has produced World Cup Slalom Canoeing, Oceania Boxing Championships/Olympic selection trials, Sydney three day International Equestrian event, Australian Rowing Championships and the upcoming Ignite The Dream documentary on the Olympic Torch Relay (Ch.7).
