Canada Sports Channel Rely On Teleglobe Broadcast Network to Carry 1998 World Cup Soccer Games
The Sports Network (TSN) and le RÚseau Des Sports (RDS), Canada's leaders in sports broadcasting, have been relying on Teleglobe's broadcast network for the live transmission of the 1998 World Cup Soccer Games, carried from France via Teleglobe's overseas satellite telecommunications infrastructure through July 12. Teleglobe is covering a total of sixty-four games which are being carried to the 7.2 million viewers who subscribe to the 24 hour cable networks. TSN and RDS's transmission of this significant broadcast is part of a growing trend by international broadcasting companies in using Teleglobe's global broadcast facilities for the live coverage of worldwide special events.
'During the past year, traffic generated from the transmission of live events has increased nearly 50 percent,' said Tom Fabian, director of global broadcast marketing and product development for Teleglobe. 'Prior to the launch of our Millennium broadcast service in January of 1998, broadcasters made little use of the Teleglobe network for live broadcast video transmissions. Now, the same world-class facilities that carry our global telecommunications traffic are being maximized to support such high-profile communications as broadcast coverage.'
Teleglobe's ground breaking Millennium(sm) service transmits video formatted in the studio quality MPEG-2 4:2:2 digital standard for high-definition and digital TV over a bandwidth-efficient ATM backbone.
