Commercial & Marketing Manager Appointed for Skandia Cowes Week
Michelle Warner has been appointed to the role of Commercial and Marketing manager for Skandia Cowes Week and will take up her appointment in January 2005.
Following the completion of her BSc joint honours degree in Sports Science and Business Studies, Michelle has spent the last 7 years in the IT industry working for IBM. During this time she has held a variety of sales and marketing roles, the most recent being Market Manager for Retail Banking within the UK.
Michelle’s role will focus on managing the existing Event sponsorship portfolio, generating new ideas for the development of sponsorship packages as well as pursuing new revenue sources. She also assumes responsibility for liaising with shoreside site owners to provide a cohesive, balanced and entertaining Skandia Cowes Week shoreside programme. In addition, Michelle will work with the chief executive, event PR team and Skandia to help develop a longer-term marketing strategy for the Event.
Shortly before the start of Skandia’s long-term title sponsorship of Cowes Week, Cowes Week Sponsorship was formed to provide a one-stop shop for sponsors of the Event. For the past ten years, a non-executive board of directors has run the company with the assistance of the chief executive of Cowes Combined Clubs. In recent years, the increasing pressures of managing expectations for supporting sponsors led to the annual employment of a seasonal sponsor liaison officer.
However, the Event has now grown to the extent that more professional commercial and marketing resources are required to take the Event forward.
