Cricket World Cup Organisers Ramping Up Operations
ICC CWC 2007 Inc is intensifying its operations and host venues are expected to do the same to meet deadlines for hosting the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2007. This was word from organizers at the Venue Summit III held in St Kitts today (September 29, 2004) at the East Caribbean Central Bank Conference Centre.
VENUE DEVELOPMENT
All venues must have final venue Overlay Plans ready by November 12. These designs will address in detail the permanent and temporary structures and facilities that will be put in place including media facilities, camera positions, catering facilities, parking and lighting.
These plans will then be submitted to the International Cricket Council for approval. CEO and Managing Director of ICC CWC WI 2007, Chris Dehring revealed that it was critical to have commonality in the execution of the CWC, but each country would still be expected to bring the flavour of their culture and traditions to their event. Consistency must be found in standards of facilities, particularly for teams who must have a 'level playing field' during the tournament to give their best performances.
A centralized procurement programme is also being proposed to ensure that the host venues get the best prices by achieving 'economies of scale'. In addition, wherever possible, opportunities for supplying goods and services will be offered to regional businesses. All extra-regional firms will also be required to work with regional partners and hire regional staff where applicable.
UPCOMING ANNOUNCEMENTS
An announcement of host venues for warm-up matches will be made to the ICC for announcement in October this year.
ICC CWC 2007 also revealed that a number of key management appointments would soon be made including Security Director and a Corporate Communications Director who would be responsible for marketing communications, brand development as well as public relations and promotions.
Dehring said that the ICC CWC 2007 brand promotion is scheduled to commence in April 2005 to allow for a two-year campaign. Over 15 leading Caribbean advertising agencies were invited to a briefing this week with a view to making proposals for ICC CWC 2007. The firm selected will work on the campaign along with the ICC’s global brand development firm Minale Bryce.

'SUNSET LEGISLATION'
The first draft 'Sunset' legislation that will be necessary for the efficient execution of the Cricket World Cup will be ready this month for review by LOC’s, Attorneys-General and CARICOM with a targeted date of December 2005 for enactment in each host country for a specific period leading up to and during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.
