Davidoff Café Sponsorship to drive The Asian PGA Davidoff Tour
Manila, May 25, 1999 - The Asian PGA announced a major Title Sponsorship deal with Davidoff Café that will launch golf in the region into the new millennium.
Davidoff will back the Asian PGA Tour for the next couple of years using its sponsorship as a promotion vehicle for the launch of its coffee brand in Asia. The title Sponsorship will also drive the Tee-Off 2000 campaign of the Asian PGA which is aimed at building the prestige and boosting the prize-money of the renamed Davidoff Tour.
The Asian PGA, formed in 1995 to give the region's professionals a stable environment in which to hone their skills and further their careers, has weathred the financial storm along with the rest of the Asian business. With the support of Davidoff, the Asian PGA is confident of stepping into the new millenium with renewed confidence.
Tee-Off 2000 maps out the way forward for the Davidoff Tour as it enters its sixth season. The new initiatives and objectives include:
- A record 25 tournaments region-wide in the year 2000, including co-sanctions with the European PGA, Australian PGA and Japan PGA Tours.
- Total prize money topping US$10 million for the first time.
- A bid to bring World Gold Championship tournaments, featuring the world's leading players such as David Duval, Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and Lee Westwood, to Asia.
- A Ryder Cup style showdown between the leading players from Asian PGA and The Japan PGA Tour.
