Denmark Could Become the Host of the BWF World Badminton Championships

Badminton - 07 Dec 2011

A Danish bid delegation is right now in New Zealand to brand Denmark and Danish Badminton and not at least to win the BWF World Badminton Championships. This is the culmination of a year long bid campaign.

Denmark is up against China and Macau. The presentation will take place on Friday in New Zealand, and shortly after The Badminton World Federations’ Council will announce the hosts of 2013 and 2014.

The Danish presentation will focus on the great event experience within Denmark. Imagine a new way to organise badminton, imagine a new way to promote badminton and imagine a new way to celebrate badminton – this is the Danish approach, explains Lars Lundov, CEO, Sport Event Denmark and adds:

- During the past few years Denmark has hosted a wide range of major international sports events such as the IOC Session and Congress in 2009 and lately the UCI Road World Championships. The strong partnership between Badminton Denmark, Wonderful Copenhagen and Sport Event Denmark is our solid fundament when we deliver top sport on home ground in new and festive set ups. We will create a badminton festival for the World Championships.

One of the essential elements in order to win the championships is the mix of professional partners and enthusiastic volunteers.

- We have many volunteers that are willing to contribute to the sport. We have skilled judges that are internationally recognized. Furthermore we have professional sponsors and partners – such as YONEX and TV2 Sport. Most importantly we have the Danish players who are absolutely world class. The BWF World Championships in Denmark would give the fans the best of badminton in one of the most attractive capitals in the world, says Charlotte Malmroes, CEO, Badminton Denmark.

From Denmark the bid delegation consists of representatives from Sport Event Denmark and Badminton Denmark.
