Denmark is Bidding for the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship
Denmark has decided to go for the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.
Henrik Bach Nielsen, President of the Danish Ice Hockey Association, has announced that the association will apply for the hosting rights of the 2016 IIHF World Championship.
If Denmark is awarded the event, the championship will be played in Copenhagen and Herning.
- We have been participating in the World Championship for 8 consecutive years including the upcoming World Championship in Germany, and over the years we have hosted a number of youth and senior championships in Denmark.
We have always been praised by the participating teams and IIHF for the way these championships have been organised, so I think that all in all we are ready now to take the next step up the ladder by inviting all top hockey nations to Denmark in 2016, says Danish hockey President, Henrik Bach Nielsen.
- It is a long process that we are initiating now. Sport Event Denmark is used to working with long term strategies, and we know the importance of being well prepared for both bidding and eventually also the hosting of major international sports events. Our commitment to deliver a world-class ice hockey event to benefit both the event owner, players, media and fans is immense. Next year we are hosting the UCI Road World Championships and the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Denmark, and staging these major events will give us an invaluable experience to the benefit of future events in Denmark, says Lars Lundov, Chief Executive, Sport Event Denmark.
In finalizing the host bid for the 2016 WC, the Danish Hockey Association will be supported by Sport Event Denmark, which has a high success rate in attracting international sport events to Denmark.
