ECB Signs Twenty20 Deal with SOLA International
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has signed a deal with SOLA International, one of the world’s leading ophthalmic lens manufacturers, to be an official supplier for the Twenty20 Cup.
SOLA International will be represented by its Teflon EasyCare brand and so becomes the first lens manufacture ever to be involved with a cricket sponsorship deal in the UK.
The Teflon EasyCare logos will be worn by the umpires, on their pockets and backs, at every game in the 52-match competition.
'I can’t imagine a more appropriate way to promote this unique product,' said Mark Ashcroft, SOLA’s Executive Vice-President for Europe, 'especially with the umpires where exceptional vision is a pre-requisite to carrying out their job, and with a name like Twenty20 we just had to go for it.'
Teflon Easycare is a unique development in lens coating technology from SOLA International and DuPont, offering wearers exceptional lens clarity and the confidence attributed to the Teflon brand name. To support the sponsorship deal, marketing materials, including promotions and national advertising, will be made available to independent opticians nationwide.
Twenty20 Cup latest news
Advance ticket and hospitality sales for Twenty20 Cup matches this summer have been strong. With the start of the competition still a month away, hospitality places for over a quarter of the 45 group games have already been sold out. This includes an impressive 1,000 hospitality places sold for the derby match between Yorkshire and Lancashire at Headingley on Wednesday 14 July.
Total advance ticket sales for the group games, meanwhile, have topped 42,000 with a number of clubs already at 50% capacity for their matches. The London Derby, Middlesex v Surrey at Lord’s on Thursday 15 July, has so far attracted over 6,500 advance ticket sales.
Tom Harrison, ECB Marketing Manager, said, 'We have been very encouraged by these excellent advance ticket sales. Domestic cricket has not had an advance ticket sales culture in the past, which makes these figures even more impressive. I’ve no doubt that we will see a number of games sold out in advance this summer so my message to cricket fans is ‘buy now to avoid disappointment on the night!’'
