Ecomar Foundation reached 10,000 children this year
"All athletes that have been so privileged as to have been blessed with the glory of Olympism's greatest honours, must try and return a little something to society." This is what double Olympic Sailing Champion, Theresa Zabell, had in mind when she gave up Olympic sailing in 1998.
Theresa then created ECOMAR Foundation, with the firm determination to make our planet a better place to live, wanting to instill in the younger ones the values of sport and Olympism, healthy living and caring for our environment.
Since the Ecomar Foundation began to take its first steps in 1999, they have always achieved the goals set, and returned to their sponsors and partners, more confidence and trust than they ever expected.
ECOMAR's growth has been continuous, reaching 10,000 children this year, and 120,000 in total, involving more than 3.400 schools and 50 sporting clubs. ¨We want to inspire young people to love and respect the environment¨.
When asked about the Foundation's Philosophy, a spokesperson answered accordingly:
"In Ecomar our priority has always been, and will continue to be, acting responsibly. Thus we see sustainability as something related to our activity, this being part of an integrated approach that has helped us to create longterm value.
In this sense, in Ecomar we focus our efforts in different areas that are the pillars of our work, a vision that takes into account sustainable development, socially responsible attitude and respect for the protection of the environment.
Our mind is set to meet our goals, which is why since 1999, Ecomar Foundation has been so active. We are always developing new and diverse programmes. Solidarity, sustainability, sport, healthy lifestyle, and awareness in environmental care, are our five pillars."
In 2014, for the first time Ecomar has carried out activities beyond Spanish frontiers. It's future plans are to grow into new countries and let more children benefit from its programmes.
Ecomar is financed by a number of private companies. Donations always welcome at http://fundacionecomar.org/colabora/
