Enormous TV Exposure For World Cups

The recently held hockey World Cups generates an enormous TV exposure. The BDO Hockey World Cup Men, played in Monchengladbach, Germany early September, generated a television audience of 645 million viewers worldwide. This is an absolute record for hockey and an increase of 50 percent compared to the Samsung Champions Trophy men.

The Samsung Hockey World Cup Women, which took place in Madrid, Spain, was watched by 380 million television viewers worldwide: an increase of 100 percent compared to the 2006 Rabobank Champions Trophy women.

The German based company IFM International Sportanalysen GmbH recently presented these fantastic figures to the International Hockey Federation FIH.

The key factors of the broadcasting of both World Cups are as follows

266 live broadcasts
645 million cumulated audience

Samsung Hockey World Cup Women. Madrid, Spain 27 September – 8 October 2006

2,597 broadcasts across 78 TV channels worldwide
225 live broadcasts
380 million cumulated audience
Sponsoring value of EUR 1,330,935 from 96 hours of screen time for Samsung as title sponsor (calculated at 10% of advertising spot rate)
