Equestrian Federation of Australia Sign up ActiveTVl
In the wake of Australia’s world-record third consecutive Gold Medal in eventing at the Sydney Olympic Games, the Equestrian Federation of Australia and ActiveTV have forged an agreement which will deliver to Australian broadcasters the most exciting equestrian package ever offered by the sport in this country. EFA President, Wayne Roycroft, announced today that the EFA will appoint ActiveTV as its exclusive media rights representative for all its equestrian events for the next five years, subject to ratification by the shareholders at the Annual General Meeting, to be held in November.
In what is a major development for the sport, the EFA will select a limited number of its events which will be designated as ‘approved television events’, forming an elite package for the media, sponsors and spectators.
The EFA will appraise all its major events, using a number of criteria, including television appeal, quality of fields, spectator and sponsor facilities, general entertainment value, past performance, location, accessibility and marketing plans.
The EFA/ActiveTV deal provides a one-stop access point for equestrian rights, as it includes domestic, international, free-to-air and pay TV rights, as well as Internet and WAP rights.
In a joint announcement, Mr Roycroft said: ‘This is a significant moment in Australian equestrian sport. After our success at Barcelona and Atlanta, we looked for ways to maximise the sport’s media and sponsorship potential, and now, with ActiveTV, we have found the best way to do this. Our agreement offers the best flexibility to deal with new technologies, as well as current ones. With the corporate and media interest generated by these latest medals, equestrian sport is now poised to take a prime media position, and we are looking forward to working with ActiveTV in developing this.’
Michael McKay, Managing Director of ActiveTV, said: ‘In the past I think equestrian hasn’t lived up to its full potential because it lacked a coordinated approach to its events. So we’re delighted to be working with the EFA to create a media and sponsorship package of world standard.’
ActiveTV represents the National Basketball League, Athletics Australia, V8 Supercars (in selected markets), Diving Australia and Rowing Australia, and produces some of Australia’s leading sports TV productions. Notably, Active TV produced the coverage of equestrian’s Olympic Test Event, the Sydney International Three-Day Event held in September 1999.
