ESPN STAR Sports Lands Sponsorship Agreement
5 April 2006, Singapore – There will be goals galore on Asia’s number one sports broadcaster as ESPN STAR Sports teams up with UK land wholesaler Profitable Plots for a slice of prime time English Premier League action.
The partnership, a first for Profitable Plots on ESPN STAR Sports, will see the company enjoying association with the English Premier League as an associate sponsor for magazine show Malaysia Airlines Football Extra in the current English Premier League season, as a well as the upcoming 2006/2007 season which kicks off in August 2006. The show is broadcast on Sunday mornings with highlights from the previous day’s EPL action, interspersed with comments, phone-ins and email reactions from Asian supporters.
In addition, Profitable Plots will also be the presenting sponsor of ESPN STAR Sports’ popular Goal of the Week Competition during the 2006/2007 season. Each week, the contest will be promoted online and on-air on Football Focus, Here We Go, Goals! and Premiership Saturday. Soccer fans will then be invited to vote for their favourite goal in the Profitable Plots Goal of the Week Competition.
Said Charles Less, Senior Vice-President, Advertising Sales (SEA), ESPN STAR Sports, “We are proud to welcome Profitable Plots on board their maiden sponsorship agreement with us. The English Premier League is the most widely distributed sports programming across Asia. It is seen in over 138 million households on the ESPN STAR Sports network with 8 out of 10 cable viewers tuning in weekly. Our extensive reach and creativity in the usage of promos and programming provide an excellent platform for Profitable Plots to reach out to a wider audience in Asia. We look forward to working with them to bring the excitement of the League to diverse audiences around the region in a fun and interactive way through the Goal of the Week Competition.”
Said a spokesperson from Profitable Plots, “ Profitable Plots are delighted to be the latest sponsor for ESPN STAR Sports and are extremely excited at the prospect of reaching so many viewers in the region. By associating English Premier League football with our own English Premier Land investments we can continue our growth and brand awareness. As sponsor for the popular Goal of the Week Competition next season, we feel that Profitable Plots are supporting true excellence.”
ESPN STAR Sports’ coverage of the EPL has scored its own goals by becoming Asia’s most watched sports programming. Compared to viewers in England, sports fans here get to watch ten matches each competition week, most of them live. The rest are on a quick turnaround and are accompanied by a line-up of programming that covers predictions, highlights, news and information as well as pre- and post-game analysis. By the close of the season in May 2006, sports viewers in Asia would have seen up to 380 league matches on ESPN and STAR Sports.
Across Asia, more than 138 million viewers watched ESPN STAR Sports’ coverage of the English Premier League during the 2004/2005 season. That represented 80% of cable viewers in the region. Another 60% enjoyed the action out of home. (Source : Infosys Singapore, TAM India,Nielsen Taiwan Telescope, CSM China).
