Euroleague Basketball Draw Comes to Athens Next Week

Basketball - 05 Sep 2006

The world-renowned Athens Concert Hall at Megaron has been chosen as the site for the Euroleague Basketball Draw, the first event of the new 2006-07 season, it was announced on Monday.

The draw will be held on Thursday, September 14 in the Greek capital, where the 2006-07 season also will culminate with the crowning of a Euroleague champion at the Final Four next spring. The Euroleague Basketball Draw, which will start at 11:30 local time (10:30 Central European Time), is the highlight of multiple events being held in Athens. The ULEB Cup Draw unfolds earlier the same morning, starting at 10:00 local time. The draws will determine the regular season groups for both competitions.

The day before the draws, the assemblies of both competitions take place at Divani Hotel in Athens. The ULEB Cup general assembly begins at 10:30 local time and the Euroleague Basketball general assembly at 17:30, with a meeting of the Euroleague Board falling in between, at 15:30.

Among the guests invited to Athens are all 48 head coaches from both competitions, who will be on hand to give their reactions to the group draws and to participate in meetings. Following the Euroleague Draw, on the afternoon of September 14, all the coaches will take part in their now-customary preseason conference with the Euroleague Basketball refereeing department. Also, from September 14 to 18, the 92 referees who will work both competitions in 2006-07 will meet in Athens for the 13th Clinic for Euroleague Basketball-FIBA Europe International Referees.
