Euroleague Basketball Makes Gherardini Sports Consultant
The Euroleague Basketball Assembly, during its meeting last week in Barcelona, decided to retain Maurizio Gherardini as a new sports consultant reporting directly to the office of the CEO, Jordi Bertomeu. Gherardini, who until the season just ended was the general manager at Benetton Treviso, has recently joined the basketball staff of the NBA's Toronto Raptors. By retaining Gherardini as a sports consultant, Euroleague Basketball continues its project of incorporating some of the most important professionals in European basketball who have filled directive functions at Euroleague Basketball clubs. As such, Gherardini joins the project in the same way that Salvador Alemany, president of the Economic Commission, and Marco Baldi, president of the Sports Commission, had previously done.
"The experience and knowledge of Maurizio can help us a lot in the study phase required by our proposed project to expand our competitions," Euroleague Basketball CEO Jordi Bertomeu said. "Our potential expansion has to deal carefully with the sports structure of the project, the countries and clubs who aspire to form part of our competitions, and Gherardini is an expert about the foundations that need to be sustained for a solid sports project in Europe."
