European Handball Federation Joins Forces with Top Partners to Boost EHF Champions League
10 September 2004/Vienna – The European Handball Federation (EHF) took control over the central marketing of the Men’s and Women’s Champions League (CL) at the beginning of the 2003/2004 season and focused its immediate attention on strategically fulfilling the product potential in the placement of the Champions League competitions on the sporting market.
The Champions League market encompasses regions which bring with them specific and vastly differing marketing potentials and solutions, which are the reasons behind the EHF regional marketing strategy for Champions League Handball. As Champions League Manager, Peter Vargo confirms, 'We identified the diversity of the markets in the countries where Champions League Handball finds its home from the outset and set out to work with highly respected regional partners which reflect the value of the product, with the goal to build-on this basis for the future'.
The EHF is proud that this strategy has come to fruition, with the product enjoying a further boost as it enters its second season in its present form. The UNIQA Insurance Group will play a decisive role in the Champions League. They have acquired the rights to be presenting sponsor for the countries Hungary, Croatia, Czech Republic, Poland and Austria where they will utilise the CL product as a platform of communication. Handball enjoys wide scale popularity in these countries, with full halls and TV figures which speak for themselves. Last season, 61 hours of Men’s CL Handball were broadcast in Hungary alone. The package not only includes the exclusivity of being presenting sponsor in these countries, but also advertising in the event venues, TV presence and hospitality packages.
The EHF also takes pleasure in announcing a new marketing partner for the markets: Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and France. Longstanding marketing partner Infront Sports & Media will take over EHF marketing activities in these countries, where handball popularity is booming. The agreement was signed at the Infront headquarters in Zug/SUI on 6 August 2004. This will bring Infront even closer to the EHF as they are now not only partners for the marketing of the senior European Championships until 2010 but also the top crème de la crème of European club competitions – the Champions League
The 2004/2005 Men’s and Women’s Champions League will get going with the qualification rounds this weekend (11/12.09 – 1st leg & 18/19.09 – 2nd leg). The actual group matches will begin on 9/10 October for the men, with the women getting going after December’s Women’s European Championship in January of 2005.
