Extreme Sports Channel and Sports Vision Form Ex Events

Action sports - 15 Mar 2002

Extreme Group and Sports Vision have joined forces to create a through the line extreme sports marketing outfit, EX Events.

EX Events will provide a full-service offering to brands wanting to benefit from the growing popularity and innovation of extreme sports such as skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding. This includes exposure on the Extreme Sports Channel, complimentary event provision and event programming, international programme distribution, and brand consultancy.

The deal will give advertisers the ability to create a seamless and consistent message to a targeted audience with the creation of specialised events, sponsorship opportunities within specific programming strands and event programming. Advertisers will further benefit from the use of Extreme Group's global distribution network to supply international and terrestrial broadcasters with the branded programming.

Phil Jones, MD of Extreme Sports Channel Europe, said, 'We found that advertisers wanted their brands to benefit both from the tactile experience of event sponsorship, and from an association with Extreme Sports Channel and the opinion forming audience it delivers. For the right brands, we can now offer a one-stop opportunity to create a powerful, consistent and creative message through both specific event involvement and media distribution.'

Julian Topham, Director of Sports Vision, said, 'Ex Events will provide a route for brands to harness a new form of event marketing, tailored made sponsorship campaigns, combined with the utilisation of an established media platform. With the increasing need for brands to develop holistic marketing campaigns, Ex Events will deliver a vehicle with can be fully exploited across the marketing mix, ranging from on the ground brand experience through to PR and sales promotion.'

Alistair Gosling, CEO / MD of the Extreme Group said, 'EX Events is a natural extension of a company as dedicated as we are to the action sports space. I can't help but be excited by the opportunities that an events business of this nature can offer to existing and potential advertisers and sponsors.'

Extreme Group and Sports Vision decided on forming EX Events following Extreme Sports Channel's broadcast sponsorship of the 2001 Boardmasters surfing championship in Newquay, an event organised by Sports Vision and a success for both parties.
