Eye Group Extends Squash Rackets Association Deal
The sports rights acquisition company Eye Group, based in London, has extended its link with the Squash Rackets Association to include sponsorship of the SRA National League.
The National League is moving into the most exciting part of the season with the second play-off semi-finals taking place on April 3rd.
AJN Steelstock of Colchester entertain the London Connaught Club based team, UK Packaging while Triage Broxbourne of Hertfordshire, travel to the Edgbaston Priory team.
Paul Smith, managing director of Eye Group, said:- 'If the last play-off matches were anything to go by, the standard of competition in the second leg games should be terrific.
Overall, the quality of some of the matches in this season’s National League continues to prove that squash is thriving in this country and that we can look forward to some great performance in the British Open Championships at the NIA in Birmingham during the summer.
The amount of people both playing and watching squash is increasing and that is why Eye Group has thrown its weight behind squash in this country and overseas.'
The semi-final play-offs provide an exciting mix of new teams and established teams. Triage Broxbourne are the defending champions, UK Packaging were last year’s runners-up, Edgbaston are one of the most recognised clubs in the country while Steelstock Lexden qualified for the play-offs for the first time.
In the first leg last week, Colchester's AJN Steelstock Lexden and the Birmingham Edgbaston Priory team established early leads, despite both clubs playing away from home. Lexden beat London's UK Packaging 3-2, while Edgbaston Priory crushed Hertfordshire's Triage Broxbourne 4-1.
Stuart Courtney, from the SRA said:- 'Having Eye Group on board as sponsor of the National League provides squash in this country with a terrific amount of stability. It means that we can promote and develop squash at all levels both locally and nationally to generate increased levels of interest in the game.
We have already seen how strong squash is at club level within Britain, and that, I’m sure, will be reflected in the performance of British players on the Worldwide scale. The British Open Championship is just around the corner and with the likes of Peter Nicol and Cassie Campion leading from the front, we can look forward to a great show in Birmingham.'
The British Open Championships take place in Birmingham at the National Indoor Arena between June 5-10th.
