FEI World Cup Jumping Situation In The Leagues
There are 14 Leagues in the FEI World Cup Jumping.
Seven of them have ended their qualifications: Central Asia, Central
Europe, South East Asia, Canada, South America (Southern Part), South
Africa and Japan.
Five Leagues are still going: New Zealand, Australia, USA West Coast,
USA East Coast and Western Europe.
Two Leagues had to be cancelled for economical reasons: Mexico, South
America (Northern Part).
The following 7 Leagues have ended their qualifications:
CENTRAL EUROPEAN LEAGUE (2 QUALIFIED)
141 riders competed in the 14 competitions of the Central European
League 1999 / 2000. Two events: Cherniakovsk in the Russian enclave of
Kaliningrad and Prag had to be cancelled for economical reasons. New
Zealand born Samantha Mc Intosh, now riding for Bulgaria, won the
League, ahead of Guntars Silins of Latvia. Both intend to compete in Las
Vegas.

CANADIAN LEAGUE (3 QUALIFIED)
The World Cup competition at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair closed
the Canadian League. Six competitions were held. The League winner, for
the second time after 1993 / 94, is Beth Underhill. Also qualified for
the Final are two times World Cup champion Ian Millar and 23 year old
Ainsley Vince. The World Cup Champion of 1984, Mario Deslauriers, is
first reserve, Ian Millar's daughter Amy is second reserve.

SOUTH EAST ASIAN LEAGUE (1 QUALIFIED)
Because of the outbreak of the Japanese Encephalitis and Hendra like
epidemic at Malaysian Pig farms, the movement of horses in South East
Asia was severely affected. All World Cup competitions had to be held in
and around the Indonesian capital of Jakarta. 10 Riders from 3 countries
participated. Endaryanto Bambang of Indonesia is the League winner and
qualified for the Final. He intends to compete in Las Vegas.

CENTRAL ASIAN LEAGUE (1 QUALIFIED)
For the first time a Central Asian League could be organised, with
competitions in Kyrgyzstan (Biskek), Kazakhstan (Almaty) and Uzbekistan
(Tashkent) 19 riders competed and Saken Suranchinov of Kazakhstan was
the League winner. The runner-up, Pioter Solovyov, intends to compete in
Las Vegas.

SOUTH AMERICAN LEAGUE - SOUTHERN PART (2 QUALIFIED)
There were 3 competitions in Brazil (Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro and
Sao Paulo) and four in Argentina (all in Buenos Aires, organised in four
different Clubs) Belo Horizonte was cancelled and Santiago de Chile was
not held. 69 riders from 5 nations competed. The League win went to
Martin Dopazo of Argentina, ahead of Bernardo Cardoso Resendes Alves of
Brazil. Resendes Alves and the 3rd placed Geraldo Gomes de Lemos intend
to compete in Las Vegas.

SOUTH AFRICAN LEAGUE (1 QUALIFIED)
5 competitions were held in South Africa and 26 riders, all South
Africans, competed. Barry Taylor, already the League winner in the 1997
/ 98 season, won the League, ahead of Renier van der Westhuizen. Taylor
intends to compete in Las Vegas.

JAPAN LEAGUE (1 QUALIFIED)
6 competitions were held in the Japan League. 24 Japanese riders
competed. Taizo Sugitani, the son of an Olympic rider, won the League
with 40 points ahead of Seiji Ninomiya and Hidehiko Tukuda, both with 35
points Sugitani intends to compete in Las Vegas.

THE SITUATION IN THE OTHER LEAGUES
WESTERN EUROPEAN LEAGUE (18 TO QUALIFY)
Nine of the 15 competitions have been held. Still to come in February
March and April 2000 are Bordeaux, Bologna, Paris, Dortmund,
's-Hertogenbosch and G÷teborg. Carsten-Otto Nagel is in the lead with 48
points, ahead of Carrie Huis in't Veld (44 points) and two more Germans,
Ralf Schneider and Lutz Gripsh÷ver with 42 points each.
USA EAST COAST LEAGUE (7 TO QUALIFY)
Six of the 10 competitions have been held. Still to come are two spring
events each in Palm Beach and Tampa, Florida. Leslie Howard, the winner
in New York, is in the lead with 61 points ahead of Alison Firestone
who earned some of her points in the Western European League, with 56
points, Donald Cheska, who won the World Cup competition in Toronto is
third with 52 points. Thereafter we have Todd Minikus (50 points), Jimmy
Torano (48 points) Megan Johnstone (43 points) and Margie
Goldstein-Engle (41 points).
USA WEST COAST LEAGUE (3 TO QUALIFY)
Four of the 8 competitions have been held. Still to come are the 4 Indio
Shows in February and March 2000. Richard Spooner is in the lead with
60 points ahead of Francie Steinwedell-Carin with 45 points and Nicole
Shahinian-Simpson with 42 points. Hap Hansen is fourth with 37 points.
AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE (2 TO QUALIFY)
14 of the 18 competitions in the Australian League have been held. Still
remaining are Castle Hill, Dapto and Kiama in January and Canberra on 6
February 2000. Vicky Roycroft is in the lead with 121 points, ahead of
Chris Chugg (119 points), Gavin Chester (112 points), Andrew Inglis (103
points) and Jeremy Inglis (100 points).
NEW ZEALAND LEAGUE (1 TO QUALIFY)
7 of the 9 competitions have been held. Still to come are in January
2000 Levin and Auckland. The League ends on 31st January 2000. John
Cottle, already the League winner on five previous occasions, is in the
lead.
