Fifa Fines Associations for Doping Rules Infringements
Fines of CHF 10,000 each have been imposed on the associations of Italy and the Netherlands while France has been fined CHF 14,500 (France) for failing to adhere to FIFA’s basic stipulations - a suspension of six months plus a fine - in recent judgments of doping cases at their associations. They also received a warning that if they repeated the practice, harsher sanctions would be imposed in future. The FIFA Disciplinary Committee passed these decisions under the chair of Marcel Mathier (Switzerland).
FIFA had instituted proceedings against each of these associations on 16 September 2004. Italy and the Netherlands sent in their arguments whereas France did not take advantage of this entitlement.
Referring to the explanations received from the associations and, in the case of France, on the basis of the files at hand, the Disciplinary Committee ruled that, despite receiving previous information in circulars and other directives, the three associations had not complied with the minimum mandatory stipulations of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
The foregoing decisions from the Disciplinary Committee are final.
