Flying Aces Announces Creation of Two New Competitions
Flying Aces Premier Aerial Competitions announced the creation of two new sports competitions – never before attempted in television – which will be the cornerstone of its 2003 European Tour.
Flying Aces has taken one of the most challenging human feats – air combat – and turned it into a sport: competitive dogfighting with real airplanes. 'In fact we have created an entirely new and radical event,' said Flying Aces founder Jeff Zaltman. This event will pit high-performance aerobatic aircraft against each other in a battle for air supremacy.
The sister format in Flying Aces’ European Tour is a form of air racing. 'Think of Formula One but with faster vehicles and more adrenaline on the same track – and in three dimensions. That’s air racing,' said Zaltman, who is keeping the details of this format close to his hip. He commented only that they will mix in a bit of old-fashioned barnstorming and stunt flying into the race.
The proprietary technology and expertise that makes these formats possible is equally exciting and innovative. Flying Aces is in discussions with IT firms on the development of interactive media applications and video game formats.
'We intend to revolutionize aviation sports and thrust it into the mainstream,' he said of these two formats, which will capitalise on the fast-growing genre of aviation sport, reach a broad demographic and tap into new sources of sponsorship.
The Flying Aces pilots are being recruited from the ranks of top military test pilots, aerobatics champions and veteran war heroes. Pilots from all over Europe will compete in six major events each year. The venues are still to be determined, but Flying Aces is planning a pan-European tour and has set its sights on global expansion.
Flying Aces is in talks with various parties on production and rights distribution but will welcome additional queries from other parties.
