2001 Goodwill Games Launched at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre
Time Warner Vice Chairman and Goodwill Games founder R. E. 'Ted' Turner officially launched the 2001 Goodwill Games in Brisbane.
Held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Monday 4 October the launch included a spectacular unveiling of a new logo and was followed by a lunch attended by 2001 people.
Along with Ted Turner, the Premier of Queensland, Peter Beattie, Goodwill and Olympic gold medallist Michael Johnson and world swimming champion Grant Hackett headlined the high profile launch.
Chairman of Queensland Events, Des Power said the launch was a successful test for Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, which will host the majority of the Goodwill Games sports in 2001.
'As one of the largest corporate luncheons ever held, this was something of a supreme test for the Convention Centre and they came through with flying colours,' said Mr Power.
'It was impressive and indicative of the professionalism Brisbane applies to major functions and events of the calibre of the launch of the 2001 Goodwill Games.'
Mr Power also congratulated the Chairman and Chief Executive of the Goodwill Games and their team.á
'In one bold moment the launch demonstrated to corporate Australia that Brisbane means business. Wayne Goss and Campbell Rose staged an outstanding event which instantly became the 'talk of the town'.'
