Four sporting associations confirmed for Player Care UK event
LONDON (15th April, 2016) - Leading names from the representative bodies of four different sports have been named as panellists at Premier Sports Network’s Player Care UK event on May 9 in Manchester.
Simon Barker, Assistant CEO at the PFA (Professional Footballers Association), will sit on the ‘Behaviour Management’ session – where panellists discuss approaches to ensure sportspeople are the same role models off the pitch as they are on it – while Damian Hopley (CEO of Rugby Players' Association), Ian Braid (CEO of the British Athletes Commission) and Ian Thomas (Personal Development Manager at the Professional Cricketers Association) will discuss what the world of football can learn from best practice in athlete care in other sports.
Premier Sports Network’s Player Care UK event will see professionals from the UK player support network – including player liaison officers, lawyers, financial advisors, agents and education officers – converge at Manchester’s Midland Hotel to discuss and debate the challenges that face players, and their advisors, in a career journey starting at youth-level and spanning to retirement.
“Football dominates the sporting conversation in the UK, but we wanted to ensure from the very start that the Player Care UK event welcomed delegates – and models of best practice – from all sports,” said David Bull, Executive Director of the Premier Sports Network.
“By having high-profile representatives from rugby, athletics and cricket – and various respected names working in the world of football – we believe the event will be a hotbed of knowledge transfer for those working with professional athletes in all sports.”
Confirmed speakers for Player Care UK also include former Arsenal and England midfielder Ray Parlour, former England cricketer Jeremy Snape, the English Premier League’s Head of Education Martyn Heather, Manchester City’s Head of Player Care Haydn Roberts and Ray Haughan, Team Administration Manager at Liverpool.
