Franz Beckenbauer received the first VIP ticket for the BDO Hockey World Cup Men 2006

Field hockey - 10 Jan 2006

In the context of the New Year reception of the Organizing Committee of the FIFA World Cup Germany 2006, last Friday in Frankfurt, OC president Franz Beckenbauer was presented the first VIP ticket for the BDO Hockey World Cup Men, which will be held from 6 to 17 September 2006 in the Warsteiner Hockey Park in Monchengladbach. "It was our desire to present this first VIP ticket as a friendly gesture between the two World Championships, which will take place in Germany in 2006. We were very pleased that the FIFA Organizing Committee took part enthusiastically ", said Uschi Schmitz, the DHB chairmen of the board, who together with the national men’s coach of the Bernhard Peters, National team captain Timo Wess and Joachim Huerter, President of the Hockey WC Organizing Committee, had driven to Frankfurt to hand over the VIP ticket.

Franz Beckenbauer is familiar to the Hockey sport, as he knows former national player Stefan Blocher from Charity football tournaments and often played golf with him. The football idol spontaneously assured an attendance with the Hockey World Cup Men, excluded however 11 September, its birthday, as date. Some important differences between the Hockey WC and the FIFA world championship, the first will only be played at one location in Germany, the recently finished first national Hockey stadium situated in Monchengladbach. And also on the financial side there are serious differences. While the budget of the football tournament shows an amount of approximately 430 million Euro. The hockey tournament works with a budget of 2 million Euro
