Getty Images is Appointed as Official Photographic Partner to the Indian Premier League

Cricket - 09 Feb 2010

London / Mumbai – January 21st 2010: Getty Images announced today that it will be extending its partnership with Global Cricket Ventures (GCV) to become the official photographic partner of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Getty Images was appointed as the official photographic partner to The Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) in September 2009, and this new agreement marks a continuation of the relationship between Getty Images and Global Cricket Ventures. The DLF Indian Premier League 2010 is set to kick-off in Hyderabad on March 12th and will feature last year’s league winners the Deccan Chargers taking on the Kolkata Knight Riders.

As the official photographic agency, Getty Images will be granted all-access accreditation to cover the matches with at least three photographers at every game, and will gain post-match access to the changing rooms, as well as to certain after matches events related to the IPL. Getty Images will also manage and license the visual content exclusively to commercial partners of the IPL.

The IPL was recently named the fourth hottest sporting property by Forbes magazine and is one of the best sporting innovations in global sport. The IPL has eight teams Chennai Super Kings, Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals competing for the ultimate prize in Indian T20 cricket. The IPL has grown from strength to strength after a spectacular inaugural season in India, the league has also wowed global audiences with a very successful IPL Season 2009 in South Africa.

The IPL is now set to return home to India in March 2010 and the stage is set for a cricket carnival that is more compelling, spectacular and multi-faceted than ever before. As part of the exciting development of the IPL, each match during the upcoming tournament will include a pre and post game entertainment.

Lalit Modi, Chairman & Commissioner, Indian Premier League, said, “The IPL is truly a best-in-class global sporting league, testimony to which are the quality of partners that we have worked with - allowing us to deliver a world-class product. Our exclusive partnership with Getty Images will enable us to offer our fans some truly exceptional photographic content. Furthermore, Getty Images’ international reach will also boost the global delivery value proposition of the league.”

Lee Martin, Senior Vice President, Sales Europe & Asia Pacific, Getty Images said: “We are delighted to announce this partnership with the Indian Premier League which follows our successful coverage of the Champions League Twenty20. The visual content that Getty Images will be able to offer its customers from this unique tournament promises to be stunning.”

Mark Melville, President New Media, GCV, said, “We are very pleased to sign this partnership with Getty Images and to have their award winning photographers covering the Indian Premier League. This year with the IPL returning back home to India – the league is set to be even bigger, better and exciting than the last two years and Getty Images’ high quality photography will really help to capture the excitement.”
