Approximately 800,000 people have attended the Three Kings Procession
Madrid 2012’s float has been one of the main attractions of the Three Kings Procession that has covered the main streets of Madrid’s city centre today. The 800,000 attending people have been amazed by the innovative design of the Olympic float, which represents an athletics track in which several decorations have been included, such as the flame designed by Javier Mariscal, the motto “Madrid 2012 Candidate City”, the Olympic rings, two huge pictures of David Cal and Beatriz Ferrer Salat (both medallists during the last Athens Olympics), and eight plasma screens which have shown promotional videos of the bid.
Jesus Rollan and Carlota Castrejana, both olympic athletes, have shared out approximately 500 kilos of sweets and numerous soft balls with Madrid’s bid logo amongst the attending children. They have been accompanied by Feliciano Mayoral, President-CEO of Madrid 2012, Roberto Sanz Pinacho, Managing Director of the Madrid 2012 Foundation, and a numerous delegation of the City Council of Madrid, who have also wanted to participate in this traditional event.
The Procession has had 37 participants amongst floats, music bands, associations and vehicles. The route has started in the Retiro Park and finished in the Plaza Mayor, where the Three Kings have been welcomed with several musical performances.
After the Christmas festivities, in which Madrid 2012 has had a very active participation, the Olympic bid will unveil its promotional campaign on Monday 10th and will continue preparing one of the most decisive events of the Olympic race, the Evaluation Commission visit, which will take place from February 3rd to the 6th of the same month.
