Head of IMG Media to Speak at International Sports Event Management Conference

Business - 13 Nov 2006

Alastair Waddington, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of IMG Media, will examine the demanding and fast developing role of host broadcaster service providers when he addresses the inaugural International Event Management Conference in London next week.

The conference, at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre on November 22 and 23, will examine in detail many of the specialist roles, disciplines and functions which are required to deliver a successful sports event.

IMG Media has worked on a variety of major international events and is currently working with Host Broadcast Services to deliver ground-breaking coverage of the 15th Asian Games which begin in Doha, Qatar on December 1.

Alastair Waddington is Chairman of DAGBS (Doha Asian Games Broadcast Services), as well as being a board member of SNTV and ESPN Classic Sport Europe, and led the Host Broadcaster operation for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

The International Sports Event Management Conference will be opened by Paul Deighton, Chief Executive of the London 2012 Organising Committee and will feature contributions from more than 30 expert speakers including Heinz Palme, head of event management for this year’s FIFA World Cup in Germany, Kit McConnell, Head of the IRB Rugby World Cup and Nigel Rushman, Event Director for next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup in the West Indies.

Speakers will be available to meet audience members and answer questions at networking breaks across the two day conference.

Delegates from a range of federations, facility owners, local authorities and consultancies from around the world have signed up for the two-day programme.

ISEM has been developed to deliver key information and contacts to all those involved in hosting and managing sports events and the companies which service and supply them. These include Sports Event Managers, Promoters, International Federations, Local Organising Committees, Governing Bodies and the Suppliers of the Services, Facilities and Equipment which make the difference between success and failure.

It aims to highlight leading-edge thinking and promote best practice by sharing knowledge and expertise across the full range of event management disciplines.

The International Sports Event Management Conference is particularly relevant at a time when the political and economic benefits of successfully staging major events are escalating as fast as the complexity of the events themselves.

The International Sports Event Management Conference is presented by Rushmans, who have organised the successful International Sports Security Summit at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre for the last two years.
