Hockey Federation President Elected to ASOIF Council
FIH President Mrs Els van Breda Vriesman was elected to the Council of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) at its meeting in Madrid on Wednesday.
Els successfully contested one of three positions on the seven strong Council, amongst five candidates, all of whom were presidents of international sports federations. Raphael Martinetti of the International Wrestling Federation and Aldo Notari of the International Baseball Federation were the other two successful candidates.
ASOIF represents all 28 summer Olympic sports federations. Its latest meetings are currently being held at the Sportaccord conference in Madrid.
Els commented, 'I’m very honoured that my international sporting colleagues afford me their respect to the extent that they entrust me with a share of the responsibility of safeguarding the interests of the international federations.'
Els van Breda Vriesman was elected president of FIH in April 2001 and became an IOC member by election in July 2001.
