IAAF Golden League Re-Starts This Friday

Athletics - 03 Sep 2007

After a break of eight weeks the IAAF Golden League recommences next Friday when the fourth meeting - Weltklasse Zürich - takes place in Zürich, Switzerland on 7 September.

Three athletes were successful in their IAAF Golden League Jackpot events at the first three meetings of 2007 - Oslo, Norway (15 June), Paris, France (6 July) and Rome, Italy (13 July) - and if any of these stars continue their winning streak through all six fixtures of the IAAF Golden League this summer, they will win at least a share of the $1 Million Jackpot.

With the conclusion yesterday of the 11th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Osaka, Japan (25 Aug to 2 Sep), the series resumes for its second half - Zurich, Switzerland (7 Sep), Brussels, Belgium (14 Sep) and Berlin, Germany (16 Sep) - with the excitement and passion of the action in Japan set to continue and inspire.

For two of our Jackpot contenders - Michelle Perry and Yelena Isinbayeva - there is the high of having secured second consecutive World titles to push them on towards the $1 Million prize, while for last year’s World Athlete of the Year - Sanya Richards - it will definitely be a matter of trying to make amends for what has been a relatively low key season by her illustrious standards.

The IAAF Golden League Jackpot Contenders are:

Women:

400m: Sanya Richards (USA)
- 2006 World Athlete of the Year

100m Hurdles: Michelle Perry (USA)
– 2005 & 2007 World champion

Pole Vault: Yelena Isinbayeva (RUS)
– 2005 & 2007 World champion

NOTE. this secondary prize is only on offer should nobody win his or her event at all six meetings.
