IAAF to Announce New Circuit Venues at Next Council Meeting
The venues for the new IAAF 1-Day Meeting Circuit for 2003-2005 will be announced at the next IAAF Council Meeting, which takes place in Paris on 3-4 July.
The new circuit will include five IAAF Golden League meetings and two other levels of meeting, which have provisionally been titled Super Grand Prix and Grand Prix. The circuit will incorporate every individual athletic event, every year, and conclude with a 'World Gala' taking place over 2 days, to replace the existing Grand Prix Final.
IAAF General Secretary Istvan Gyulai said today: 'We have received an impressive number of applications for all the categories of meetings, and are carefully examining all the information we have received. We are particularly keen to receive assurances about television coverage which reflect the higher value of this new circuit.'
'It is important to place the Golden League in the context of the circuit as a whole, and we look forward to announcing the new package in Paris during the IAAF Council Meeting,' said Gyulai.
