ICC Cricketnext.com Cricket Week 2000 Program Of Events

More details about the extensive program being undertaken by ICC's Cricket Ambassadors during ICC Cricketnext.com Cricket Week 2000 were announced today.

Emerging Nations Tournament (5-13 April):
Graeme Pollock was guest of honour at the welcoming function on Sunday evening, accompanied by ZCU President Peter Chingoka and ICC Africa Development Officer Hoosain Ayob. Graeme Pollock addressed the players, coaches and managers of the participating teams on the eve of the tournament. Over the next two days he had the opportunity to speak with players and officials on relevant cricketing matters.

Chiang Mai Sixes Tournament (3-9 April):
Mike Procter, who participated in this tournament in Thailand in 1989, opened this year's event on Monday evening. The remainder of his visit has been given over to meeting government officials, providing advice about playing structures and programs, meeting media representatives and drawing attention to the recently introduced Kanga Cricket Program. On Friday 7th April he moves on to Dhaka to join the TV commentary team for the Asia v Rest of the World match.

Bangladesh Cricket Board Program (2-9 April):
Duleep Mendis will be in Dhaka as guest of honour for the week of celebrations organised by the BCB. Activities range from competitions for under 10's and under 13's, a forum on cricket development, painting competitions and a children's cricket quiz. Mike Procter and Ravi Shastri will join Duleep Mendis during the final stages of the week.

Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and China (7-17 April):
Allan Border, along with ICC East Asia-Pacific Development Officer Andrew Eade, will visit all these venues, attending events to raise the profile of cricket. In Hong Kong Allan Border will launch a children's playground cricket league before meeting government officials in Seoul, launch the JET cricket program in Tokyo and then open the refurbished Shanghai Cricket Club in China.

Canadian Cricket Association (7-9 April):
Richie Richardson, accompanied by ICC Americas Development Officer John Shepherd, will open the National Cricket Training Centre in Toronto while the CCA launches a range of cricket training programs for its talented athletes.

USA Cricket Association (7-9 April):
Sir Vivian Richards visits Los Angeles to attend a junior cricket festival at Woodley Park. Meanwhile in New York, Michael Holding will participate in a coaching and development program for youth cricketers.

United Arab Emirates (2-9 April):
Mushtaq Mohammad attends the UAE Cricket Week festival in Dubai featuring matches between the local academy and visiting academies, an under 13 competition and coaching and development opportunities for those unfamiliar with cricket.
