ICC High Performance Pathway Programme Wraps Up in Manchester

Cricket - 12 Jun 2008

The International Cricket Council wrapped up its High Performance Pathway Programme for senior administrators from the ICC’s top Associate Members. The participants have been in Manchester attending the five day programme facilitated by the World Academy of Sport at its Manchester Business School headquarters.

Chief executives, national coaches and directors from Bermuda, Canada, Ireland, Kenya, Netherlands and Scotland attended the programme and were exposed to presentations from some of the world-leading experts in the field of high performance sport. Consistent with the World Academy of Sport mantra ‘learning by doing’, the presentations were augmented with extensive group work resulting in participants being equipped with practical tools that will assist them drive enhancements in their home countries.

Gus Logie – Bermuda National Coach, said: "The key outcome for me was a greater understanding of how to identify the base of talent and integrate that base into individual high performance models for better outcomes. Looking at different models to achieve this and the quiet confident way presenters delivered, has given me the confidence to deliver similar models back in Bermuda."

The programme was targeted at ICC top Associate Member nations, however Anton Ferreira, National Manager: Coaching from Cricket South Africa also attended the programme. Anton said:" It was a most refreshing and rewarding experience that will undoubtedly contribute to one’s overall management skills and ensure that one does not stagnate or get caught up in a comfort zone. The course certainly challenged my way of thinking and has had a positive, significant impact."

This programme is being delivered at the Manchester Business School, where the World Academy of Sport has its headquarters, and is recognised as one of the premier business schools in Europe. Since its formation in 1965, Manchester Business School has become an internationally recognised centre of excellence for management studies.

Director of the World Academy of Sport Chris Solly said: "From our perspective the programme was very successful.
We have had good initial feedback from participants. Quite apart from the core programme content we were very pleased to integrate various Manchester experiences into the five days, culminating in a reception by the Lord Mayor of the City of Manchester at the Town Hall. Overall the package was a good mix of face to face learning, group work and networking."

The course was managed by the ICC High Performance Manager Richard Done and attended by between two and four delegates from each of the six high-performance Members with an additional observer representing Cricket South Africa.
